Director, Government Relations, Alberta, Insurance Bureau of Canada
Edmonton, Calgary
The Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) is the national industry association representing Canada’s private home, car, and business insurers. Established in 1964, IBC’s member companies account for 90% of the Canadian property and casualty (P&C) insurance market. As the leading voice of the Canadian P&C insurance industry and its customers, IBC proactively works to shape decisions on policy reforms and regulation and provides consumer education.
IBC’s primary mission is to advocate for a competitive, responsive, and resilient private P&C insurance industry that provides effective insurance solutions to individuals and businesses. The organization collaborates with governments, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure that the industry can protect Canadians from current and future risks.
Reporting to the Vice President, Western Canada, the Director, Government Relations Alberta will represent the interests of IBC and its member companies through advocacy, media, and government relations, and stakeholder engagement.
As the ideal candidate, you are an excellent communicator and public speaker, and you understand how government functions at both provincial and national levels. You will monitor and stay involved in the public affairs environment to represent the interests of IBC’s members, and you will keep IBC’s members informed of key developments resulting from the strategies and communication that you formulate. You see what needs to be done, know how to develop proposals, and understand the core principles of working toward consensus in a member-led association. You thrive when maintaining complex stakeholder relationships while keeping a focus on the end user of IBC’s efforts: insurance customers.
