President and CEO, Canadian Meat Council
Ottawa
Founded over a century ago, the Canadian Meat Council (CMC) is the voice of Canada’s meat industry, representing the entire value chain of red meat production and distribution in Canada, including all beef and pork sold internationally. The meat industry is the most significant component of Canada’s food processing sector. With annual sales surpassing $35 billion and red meat exports at $9.5 billion, Canada’s red meat supply chain supported over 194,000 jobs in rural and urban locations from coast to coast.
CMC provides evidence-based advocacy on behalf of its members and works to secure and improve Canada’s global meat competitiveness. It also promotes a balanced diet, producing 1.9 billion tons of nutritious and sustainable Canadian meat for domestic and international food supply chains. In a move to better serve the industry, CMC and Canada Pork recently merged operations, creating a unified voice for Canada’s meat sector.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, and leveraging a staff of 12-15, the new CEO will provide strategic leadership and vision, coupled with sound operational and business management, while working with CMC’s stakeholders to effectively position and grow the industry as a whole. They will build visibility and profile for the meat sector, demonstrate tangible value to its members, and ensure that the organization continues to run efficiently and effectively as the integration of CP into CMC continues. Working with a myriad of stakeholders, the CEO will ensure solid linkages with government bodies, the media, and other partner organizations to advocate for more favourable business conditions while promoting the visibility and success of the Canadian meat industry.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished and visionary leader with significant experience in the association, business, or not-for-profit sectors. A natural relationship builder, they will demonstrate integrity, credibility, and a deep commitment to the organization’s mission. With exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, combined with strong business acumen, they will effectively lead and develop a high-performing team. Entrepreneurial and results-oriented, the ideal candidate will bring experience in driving revenue growth through diverse channels while ensuring members understand the value CMC brings.
The successful candidate must have the ability to represent the organization effectively in Canada’s official languages – English and French.
