Supply Ontario is the provincial agency with an ambitious mandate to strengthen and transform the province’s public sector supply chain management system. The Agency is working to build world-class capability that harnesses Ontario’s buying power to enable economic development, province-wide resilience, and value for Ontarians. Supply Ontario’s mandate is to modernize supply chain management and procurement across the public sector, ensuring that Ontario ministries, provincial agencies, hospitals, school boards, children’s aid societies and more have access to high-quality, timely, reliable products at the best value.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Legal Officer (CLO) will play a key role in setting the vision, strategic direction, and priorities for the legal function, ensuring the provision of legal expertise across the organization. The CLO support Supply Ontario with legal advice related to procurement and trade case law and will be responsible for identifying legal risks regarding procurement and associated contracts. This role requires exceptional leadership skills to guide Supply Ontario through all legal matters while ensuring compliance and supporting organizational objectives. The CLO will establish, manage, and maintain relationships with external legal contractors to support Supply Ontario’s vendors of record, contractual agreements, and public sector merger and acquisition activities.
As an ideal candidate, you are a dynamic and proven leader with deep expertise in the public sector. You have previous experience building and leading a high-performing legal team, while driving efficiency through cross-functional teams and external counsel. You have significant experience providing strategic transactional support, negotiating complex agreements, and delivering high-quality, timely, and consistent legal services and advice. With strong interpersonal and communication skills, you can explain complex legal matters in simple and succinct terms to a varied audience. A LLB or JD is required and must be a member in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario.
