Giyak Mishkawzid Shkagmikwe (GMS) is the economic development corporation for Atikameksheng First Nation. The purpose of GMS is to improve the quality of life and increase opportunities for the Debendaagziwaad of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek; who were marginalized while their lands suffered the impacts of mining, settlement, and industrial activity for 150 years. GMS is 100% owned by Atikameksheng Anishnawbek. It manages and supports the development of Nation-owned business ventures whose function is to return revenues and other economic benefits to the Nation and ensure its participation in resource and other developments on the Greater Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Territory.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has executive responsibility for overseeing and directing strategic and emerging initiatives, leadership, and business and community development with the vision and success measures of GMS. The CEO is accountable for all organizational performance. The CEO has an advisory reporting role to the Chair of the GMS Board of Directors. The CEO provides regular reports to community members including a full report at an annual general meeting.
The successful candidate demonstrates a strong belief in, and commitment to GMS. The CEO will have proven senior leadership experience, with a deep understanding of both corporate governance and Indigenous values. An entrepreneurial and visionary leader, this individual brings a wealth of knowledge and proven skills required to build and scale a new organization. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are essential, as well as the capability to create and execute strategies in collaboration with senior leadership on key priorities.
